A "Round Table" was held as part of the World Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week

On the initiative of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a round table was held within the framework of the World Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week with the participation of heads of infection control departments of health care institutions that provide highly specialized inpatient medical care to the residents of Lviv Oblast.

The participants exchanged experience, useful information and opinions in the field of implementation of the antimicrobial drug administration program.

Within the framework of the Memorandum on cooperation with the Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo Halytsky - LNMU, the head of the department of epidemiology Nataliya Vynograd took part in the round table. The professor emphasized how global the problem of antibiotic resistance is.

Extensive training of doctors on rational prescribing will help in overcoming this problem.

Clinical pharmacists play a major role in infection control departments.

The head of the department of antimicrobial resistance and infection control, Lilia Mykhailiv, spoke about approaches to the formation of a local database of pathogens and antibiotics that can be used for empirical therapy (primarily, when the pathogen that causes an infectious disease is not yet known).

Summing up the event, the chief state health physician of the Lviv region, Nataliya Ivanchenko, emphasized that doctors should clearly understand why antimicrobial drugs are administered and prescribe antibiotics in accordance with the Standards of Operating Procedures and Protocols.

The infection control departments of healthcare facilities will always help you make the right decision.
