How does the state rehabilitate burn patients?

The war has increased the number of people in need of burn treatment and rehabilitation services.

Military personnel and civilians, burned by the realities of hostilities, were added to everyday injuries. All of them should receive from the state not only medical assistance, but also high-quality and effective rehabilitation.

The time to start rehabilitation is extremely important. Recovery of a person with a burn injury should begin in the acute period. Ideally, as soon as possible after the patient's condition has stabilized, in the same medical facility where he was taken. At this stage, proper and effective care involves the joint work of burn doctors who specialize in burns, anesthesiologists (for adequate pain relief) and rehabilitation specialists.

Studies have shown that early initiation of limb positioning, proper bandaging, mobilization, and use of orthoses have positive patient outcomes. This approach prevents the development of contractures that reduce joint mobility and secondary complications. That is why, in the vast majority of cases, the rehabilitation process begins in operating and dressing rooms.

Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy recovery process for people with burn injuries. In most cases, rehabilitation in such cases begins on the first day of the injury and continues until the period of scar maturation. This process can last for years - in the post-acute and long-term stages, which is especially relevant for the prevention of contractures.

Currently, relevant services are provided in Lviv TMO, Vinnytsia Regional Clinical Hospital named after M. I. Pirogov and Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 2.

Note: all rehabilitation services are free for people and are fully covered by the National Health Service under the Medical Guarantee Program.

The inpatient rehabilitation service for one direction of rehabilitation must be at least 14 days with the duration of procedures from 3 hours per day. In two directions and more - more than 21 days.

Outpatient rehabilitation involves more than 14 days of intensive classes that should last more than an hour a day.

Each patient, depending on the severity of the injury, can receive from 2 to 8 rehabilitation cycles during the year.
