WHO calls stroke an epidemic of the 21st century, because it is one of the most common causes of death and disability among the adult population in the world.
Up to 90% of all strokes can be prevented by influencing the main risk factors: cardiovascular disease and hypertension or blood pressure ≥140/90 mm Hg; use of tobacco and alcohol; excess body weight and obesity;
increased level of sugar in the blood; insufficient physical activity.
